Tips to care for and maintain your bike

In this post, we’ll explain some tips on how to keep your bike in top shape for every ride. We always recommend following good maintenance practices to avoid problems and extend its lifespan.

1. Every day of use

Before each ride:

- Lubricate the chain. A poorly lubricated transmission causes premature wear of the entire drivetrain system.

- Check the tire pressure. Riding with incorrect pressure will make your ride less enjoyable. You might get a puncture, damage the rim, or, in the worst case, cause a fall.

 

After each ride:

- Clean your bike, especially if you've ridden in dusty or muddy conditions.

- Dry your bike thoroughly; avoid rust!

- Check tire pressure again.

 

 

2. Every month

Inspect for possible play on the bike

- On the stem and handlebars

- Wheels

- Other components

 

* If you're comfortable using tools, check and tighten all screws.

 

Note! Each screw has a specific torque. If you don't have a torque wrench, don't overtighten!

Getting into the habit of tightening screws before each ride will help avoid unpleasant surprises.

 

 

3. Every 500 km

 

Check the condition of brake pads, whether V-Brake, mechanical, or hydraulic.

Depending on the bike and usage, they have different lifespans:

- On an e-bike, they can last between 500 and 1,000 km

- On a non-electric bike, between 1,000 and 2,000 km

 

Depending on use, elevation, and riding style, brake pads will last more or less.

Riding with worn brake pads will eventually scratch the brake discs, leading to premature replacement.

 

 

4. Every 1,000 km

 

Your bike needs a complete check-up.

Due to wear, you’ll probably need to replace:

- Chain

- Rear tire

 

* We recommend having a professional perform a full check-up. This way, premature wear that could lead to future breakdowns can be detected.

 

Chains stretch over time. When a chain becomes too stretched, it should be replaced as its new shape will end up damaging the rest of the drivetrain, such as chainrings and cogs.

 

 

5. Every 2,000 km

 

Due to wear, you’ll probably need to replace:

- Front tire

 

It’s also time to check the suspension (if applicable).

Basic maintenance is recommended every 100 hours of use or once a year.

Complete maintenance is recommended every 200 hours of use or after 100 hours from the last basic maintenance.

Failing to maintain your suspension at the proper time can lead to costly repairs and loss of warranty.

 

6. Every 3,000 km

 

Your bike needs a thorough check-up.

 

Due to wear, you’ll probably need to replace:

- Complete drivetrain

- Suspension bearings (if applicable)

- Other bearings

 

We recommend that thorough check-ups be carried out by an experienced professional. Avoid surprises and ride safely.
